Book of Mormon, Mormon: Chapter 8

The highest level of freedom is lived by God. He holds all laws, both physical and spiritual, in His hands. He could change them anytime but won't because He also is the master of Himself. He practices perfect self-governance and that is the reason why we trust Him.

I love my Heavenly Father more than anything I can describe. I long to be with Him and to behold His face again. I miss Him. He gave me the greatest of gifts. A second chance! He sent His Son Jesus Christ to this earth to die for me so that I could repent of the girl I once was and through faith in Christ become a new person in every way.

I have been searching for answers to our nation’s problems for the last five and a half years. I believe the judgments of God are hanging over us, ready to destroy if we don't wake up right now and repent. I believe that gradually for the last hundred years Americans have believed the lie that we can delegate our personal responsibility of “loving our neighbor as ourself” to the government. We have forgotten that to administer to the sick and the poor one by one as the Savior taught blesses both the giver and receiver. We are essentially paying someone else to live our Christian values while at the same time building up and supporting the very entity that would rob from us our desire to worship the true and living God at all times, in all places, and in all things. [See Book of Mormon, Mormon: chapter 8.]

To help ease our conscious for neglecting this second great commandment of the Lord, the world has offered such medicine as alcohol, drugs, and pornography. It's given us movie stars and idols to worship and late night television to mock Him. It strokes our pride and speaks beautiful words encouraging us to work late and play hard without any reminders of why it is we are here on this earth. Truly every sin that ever was is manifest in our society today.

But the Lord does not always allow the wicked to prosper. At some point he must cut them down to allow a new generation of His children to be saved. I believe that time is now.

I remember my grandma telling me about a time when men, women, and children left everything they had to come to America and pursue their faith, family, and freedom. Today, like every society that has ever been (except for the City of Enoch) we have turned that memory upside down and the American dream has become nothing more than a pursuit of “things” at the expense of faith, family, and freedom.

May God help us to wakeup and wake our neighbors. W A K E U P A M E R I C A and W A K E U P Saints of these Latter Days…

Does it really matter?

I have a dear friend up in Washington State, where I am from, who recently told me about a friend of theirs who ran for public office a couple years ago. Because of this he was able to see how people voted and noticed that very few LDS even voted. In one area only 25% voted. She went on to say "I wonder if our fellow saints realize that we will be held accountable for this?"

These days, it is not popular to say you care one way or another about politics. "Does it really matter?" "They're all corrupt" "I'm just one person" are the phrases I hear over and over from good people. Usually I say nothing when I hear this. It's like sharing the gospel with someone whose not ready. Words aren't enough to change their minds. The spirit must do it and only a receptive heart will hear the spirit. But when I find myself in these situations, I often think of these scriptures...

23 Awake, put on the armor of righteousness. Shake off the chains with which ye are bound, and come forth out of obscurity, and arise from the dust.
20 For behold, at that day shall he rage in the hearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.
21 And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well—and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell.
22 And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none—and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance.
24 Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!

Did Joseph Smith think that being politically neutral was in the mind of God when he ran for President of the United States? What would have happened to the Nephite Government if Moroni concerned himself only with the affairs of the church and neglected the political events around him? Wasn't he the one of whom was said, "Verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men."

Most latter day saints work very hard in their callings. They work hard in their jobs, their families, in keeping the commandments and being good people. But one thing is needful and it is very uncomfortable to talk about this need to defend our liberties and guard against the encroaching wickedness in all places.

Ezra Taft Benson said, "No people can maintain freedom unless their political institutions are founded upon faith in God and belief in the existence of moral law." A free people must know how to self-regulate, which historically has been taught through religion and a belief in God and eternal judgement. As our society loses its faith, its ability to self regulate is also lost and the need for controls and regulation are imposed on us externally.

This is what has happened to us my friends. In the coming days I will show you how bad it has become. We have replaced God, with government. Our hopes lie in men and we haved turned light for darkness, and darkness for light. We are living in the time prophesied of so long ago. I am excited brothers and sisters. Let us awake! and shine forth. We are the salt of the earth, and we have not yet lost our savor. My greatest comfort in all of this is the prophecy that says we will yet bare up the constitution and hold it as an ensign to the nations. There is a battle raging in the hearts and minds of men. The same battle that existed before we came to earth. Let us pray always that we be not deceived.
